The History of
Rinaldo's Bake Shoppe
When most people think of Rinaldo's they automatically envision a birthday
cake that Rinaldo or one of his children personally crafted or they
remember the taste of their friend's strawberry-filled wedding cake. For more than 50 years Rinaldo
and his family have felt thrilled and privileged to play a part
in the special moments of their customers.
In 1957, Rinaldo Stolfo immigrated to Dayton, Ohio. He was a Pastry Chef for
Hilton Hotels. In the years following an aspiring Rinaldo was employed by many
of the best event facilities in town. He also created cakes from the
bakery workshop in his home. His passion for baking and art was a constant motivator.
Rinaldo and his wife, Anna, soon had an opportunity to run Owens' Bakery
(Hechsher Kosher Certified) in the heart of a Jewish community. In 1965, Rinaldo purchased
Owens' interest in the bakery. Home-baked freshness, quality
products and personalized service became synonymous with Owen's Bakery. Contracts
with many hotels and airlines provided steady and healthy growth for the bakery.
In 1970, Rinaldo decided to split from the Owens' dynasty, create Rinaldo's
Bake Shoppe, and move to a modern, highly automated central production
facility. A clientele that was as diverse as the products and cake themes
Rinaldo produced required Pareve Certification. A European style Café bakery
called Lil' Rinaldo's in the downtown Dayton Arcade boomed for 12 years
and then fell pawn to retail politics. Today, in addition to the central bakery,
Rinaldo's provides Wedding Cakes, Specialty Cakes and supports Business Accounts
throughout southwestern Ohio and eastern Indiana.
